A famous doctor who practiced euthanasia

Jack Kevorkian was a U.S-based physician who assisted in patient suicides.
He was born in 1928, May 26 son of refugees who escaped the American Massacres that occurred shortly after World War 1. As his father owned his own excavating company, he always had a comfortable life without financial problems.
He says there was always enough to eat. Although his parents were religious he never really believed in God. His grades at school was always great and he sometimes humiliated teachers when they couldn't  keep up with his sharp debate skills. Being such a intelligent kid, Kevorkian had trouble making friends. Accepted into the College of Engineering, he aimed to become a civil engineer. However he became bored soon and focused on botany and biology. By midyear, he had set his sights on medical school. He graduated  in medicine at the Michigan in 1952 and began a specialty in pathology soon after. Later on he became interested in death and acts of dying. He wanted to study it profoundly because he found it interesting and because it was a taboo subject. Then he had the idea of using death-row prison inmates as experiments while they were still alive. This also torn him apart his colleagues and his peers gave him the nickname "Dr. Death". Kevorkian's controversial views earned him minor media attention which resulted in his ejection from Michigan Medical Center. Although he opened his own clinic, it failed eventually. By 1982, Kevorkian was living alone, occasionally sleeping in his car, living off canned food and social security. In order expand his  death row proposal, he started new articles, this time about benefits of euthanasia. He followed up his papers with the Thanatron which is a machine he made himself to practice euthanasia. However, this was also rejected by national medical journals. In 1990, he eventually had the opportunity to use his machine when a 54 year old patient Janet Adkins looked for him to be euthanized. she was a member of an organization that advocates voluntary euthanasia for terminally ill patients. Adkins died of heart failure after using the machine. When the news spread, Kevorkian became a celebrity-- and criminal. The case was later dismissed due to Michigan's indecisive stance on assisted suicide. Even though he was not able to use his machine again it didn't stop him. He created a gas mask that would euthanize people. He got arrested four times in Michigan but always got out of jail saying that he had the intent to relieve pain and suffering of patients. Eventually he was arrested for 25 years accused of 2nd-degree murder. In 2007 June 1, Kevorkian was released from jail for his good behavior. After getting out of jail, he candidate for a seat in U.S Congress representing Michigan but fail. On June 3, at the age of 83, Jack Kevorkian died by kidney and heart problems.

A Belgian Woman Decided To Be Euthanized

Emily, a 24 year old woman who lives in Belgium, has been suffering from a serious mental disorder since she was only three years old. She didn't know why she existed, and thought "I don't wanna be here." When she was thirteen, she started thinking about suicide, and hurt herself over and over. She couldn't find a reason to live. So she decided to be euthanized in Belgium, in which death with dignity is legal for people who suffer from "an incurable or terminal illness".      After going through so many times of counseling, she was approved to be euthanized. It was because she injured herself so many times and she was truly despairing about living her life. Doctors told her that she could cancel it whenever if she wants, and the last day of her life came.      In the end, she chose not to die. She says "I couldn't. I have to fight with myself again."      Even though she decided not to die, her case shows that living is hars...

We did a presentation in our class!

We had a presentation in our class about euthanasia. We were assigned to creat an NPO related to the topic and present it as if we were recruiting our class members to join us. We found an NPO called "Terminal ill right to die"(TIRD). Our concept is that terminal ill people should have the right to get euthanized but non-terminal ill people shouldn't have the right to get euthanized. Terminal ill people should have the right to end their physical pain. However more and more non-terminal ill people are trying to get euthanized because of stress and depression but life is such an important thing that we shouldn't give up on it so easily. There are always ways to solve any kind of problems but death. We should fight to protect more lives and care more about people. Our project is to collect signatures from people, show our will and make a stricter low for those who wants to get euthanized. Our goal is to decrease the number of non-terminal ill people who gets euthanized...
